What can You do?People trapped in Slavery are treated as commodities to be bought or sold like property, they are often controlled and forced to work under the threat of violence or abuse. Consumable goods such as Coffee, Chocolate, Tea and Cotton are considered everyday items in the western world and demand for these items is high, the result is widespread Slavery in the third world countries which farm these raw goods. You can help by being an Ethical consumer. Buying goods which have a Fairtrade, UTZ, Rainforest Alliance or other ethical certification that can ensure workers are being paid a living wage.
